Why You Shouldn't Give Your Horse CBD Oil

I am from Colorado where it all began. With this being said, when my partner and I were looking for CBD Oil in the equine industry we came across a lot of growers, dispensaries and CBD Oil dog products. At the time, it looked like we were the only ones that wanted to create a product for horses. We were shocked that some dog CBD Oil companies were wanting to make a product for horses without any knowledge of the horse's sensitive digestive system. Most of the bakers we met thought that the weight of the horse was the determining factor for the quantity of CBD Oil in each serving. Talk about a miscalculation on their part. After we spoke to them, we realized that most of them had never even touched a horse and they were trying to make a quick buck in a growing and unregulated industry.
Let me introduce myself, I grew up on a ranch and have shown quarter horses for over 40 years. When you are a horse owner, you have many opportunities to work with veterinarians, farriers and horse trainers. My partner Heidi has her Ph.D. in Natural Medicine where her pharmacy develops homeopathic remedies for humans and animals. Heidi and I interviewed veterinarians in several different States and that is when we knew what the correct CBD Oil dosage was along with which herbs were safe for the horses. Since I run around the country showing horses, I knew the product had to do well in all types of temperatures and it had to be sturdy enough to handle being stored in feed stalls, horse trailers, and tack carts. After 50 years of watching horses eat, I knew that horses waste a lot of grain by dropping it out of their mouths onto the stall floor. CBD Oil is expensive and it killed me that it might be wasted. That is when I came up with the idea of a cookie or treat. All horses like cookies, right! When we developed the recipe, I put bags of CBD Oil cookies in tack rooms in several different states with varying humidity levels and temperatures. I also placed them in friends' horse trailers that were going down the road. I wanted to make sure that they held up. This was before we found a laboratory that could test for shelf life. Duh. Well guess what? The cookies not only held up but looked and tasted great after six months.
So why did I name this blog “Why You Shouldn’t Give Your Horses CBD Oil”? Because the majority of the products we have found are in pellet form that will be wasted when the horses eat or made by companies that think the horse cookies will be placed in a kitchen pantry or refrigerated. Again, they don’t know anything about horses' sensitive digestive systems and especially colic. So when you are looking for a CBD Oil product for your horses, please look behind the scenes and find out if the company is backed by horse owners or just somebody trying to make a quick buck.
Obviously, I wouldn’t have written this blog if I didn’t think CBD Oil was good for horses. I truly believe it is God’s medicine. I have been running my retired show horses on it with amazing results. My injured horses have healed faster than expected and my younger horses are focused during training. So yes, you should give your horses CBD Oil to help with arthritis, chronic pain, faster healing from injuries, growing pains, calming and focusing or just wear and tear going down the road to rodeos or horse shows.
Remember to love your horse because they are truly a gift from God.
