The answer is yes, when CBD oil is introduced into the horses’ system it not only supplies more CBD oil to the body but tells our own CBD receptors to produce more of its own natural CBD. CBD receptors are amazing and just like taking an aspirin the body knows where the CBD is needed and goes directly to that area. CBD oil does not only interact with cannabinoid receptors but also non-cannabinoid receptors as well. The interaction with these receptors suggests CBD has the potential to treat several conditions at the same time by producing unique effects such as reducing inflammation, alleviating pain, and decreasing anxiety. Horses or any member of the equine family that is on stall rest this is a win win. Not only is it helping with pain management and inflammation but the day-to-day anxiety a horse suffers when confined for long periods at a time.
Below is a true story on how CBD promotes faster healing.
Have you ever had your dream come true and then the rug got pulled out from underneath your feet. That is exactly what happened to me. In 2017, my beautiful black mare A Diva by Moonlight won the AQHA Quarter Horse Congress and then the AQHA World Show in the Senior Western Pleasure. I was over the moon (no pun intended) excited that my horse won at such a high level. In 2018, I started winning at every show. Again, exceeding my wildest imagination. My dreams were getting big as we were coming up on the NSBA World Show and AQHA Select World Show, that I would be on top of Moonlight winning the golden globe. Unfortunately, I got the call that no horse owners want to get. Your horse is lame. At first, I thought it was bad footing at the horse show and she would be fine. But when the MRI results came in, it was a digital flexor tendon injury on her front foot. One year off if not longer was the prognosis and my dreams shattered. While following my veterinarian’s advice, I also started Moonlight on CBD Discs (cookies) since she was going to be on stall rest for over a year. So, the rehab journey began, stall rest and hand walking. Six months later, my veterinarian was so surprised at how quickly she progressed I was able to start riding her lightly. After a few more months she was back in training and getting ready for another show season. I truly believe that the CBD discs was the reason for the amazing results.
