Will CBD help horses with inflammation?

The definition of horse inflammation is a localized protective response elicited by injury or destruction of tissues, which serves to destroy, dilute, or wall of both the injurious agent and the injured tissue. So, what does this mean? Inflammation occurs when the body’s natural immune system is triggered to respond to an injury or perceived threat. The chemicals released by the immune system can increase the flow of blood to the affected area to create swelling and a buildup of fluid. This can potentially cause pain and premature breakdown of cartilage and tissues in joints affected by arthritis and other conditions. Internal organs can also be affected by inflammation in horses, which can lead to even more serious issues. Understanding the experience your horse is having will help determine if CBD oil for the horse’s inflammation is the right choice.

There are two different types of inflammation: acute and chronic. Acute inflammation is uncomfortable, but it is a good thing. This kind of inflammation is the body’s initial defense against any harmful stimuli. This does cause pain, redness, swelling, and heat, but it is a sign of a healthily functioning immune system. Chronic inflammation lasts for extended periods of time, from several months to even years. Chronic inflammatory diseases are one of the most significant causes of death worldwide. This kind of inflammation in horses happens when the body has prolonged exposure to a low level of a foreign material or pollutant or when acute inflammation is not immediately taken care of and has long-term effects.

The classic signs of inflammation are heat, redness, swelling, pain, and loss of function.
These are manifestations of the physiologic changes that occur during the inflammatory process. The three major components of this process are (1) changes in the caliber of blood vessels and the rate of blood flow through them (hemodynamic changes); (2) increased capillary permeability; and (3) leukocytic exudation.

Even though horse inflammation research is being done every day on why CBD Oil can reduce inflammation in horses, the results we are seeing at H & J CBD Equine Supplements have been encouraging. All mammals have CB1 and CB2 receptors which are members of the G-Proteins Coupled Receptors superfamily. This means it regulates ion channels which help with cell regeneration, efficiently transporting nutrients, and smooth muscle contractions. It’s critical in the nervous system because these channels help moderate how much electricity is getting sent through synapses to ensure the brain doesn’t fire too many signals.

CB2 Receptors
CB2 is evenly distributed throughout the body, unlike its counterpart CB1. CB2 has been mostly seen in immune cells and also in several neurons. During inflammation, there is actually an increased number of receptors for activation, showing the role of the receptor in the process of homeostasis. The more CB2 receptors present, the more work they can do.

When horses experience inflammation, it is generally normal and healthy process to have happen. When parts of the body swell up, it is that specific part of the body getting filled with a liquid that has immune cells that are trying to protect from pathogens in the body. The endocannabinoids that interact with the CB2 receptor make sure that the inflamed area doesn’t spread, and the pathogen doesn’t overstay its welcome. This is where CBD oil for horse inflammation can drastically change the horse’s health and pain management. Chemical imbalances and brain injury can prohibit the brain from recognizing when the threat is over. It might even tell the brain new threats have begun and it needs to attack! Hemp oil helps improve the functionality of the CB2 receptors, making horse inflammation a thing of the past.
