What is the best CBD Supplement?

As the CBD market explodes with new products and new companies every day, the question is always asked which CBD is best for horses, donkey’s mules, and even miniature horses

CBD comes in a variety of packaging.  You can get tinctures which means it is in liquid form, edibles and topicals.  Tinctures are best administered underneath the tongue for the quickest absorption.  However, some people just swallow it. With horses, it is impossible for them to hold it under their tongue and if you do try to administer it using a syringe mostly likely they will spit it out just like Bute or Banamine.  CBD is expensive so using a tincture might not be cost effective.  Edibles which come in disc or pellet form is the most effective if they taste good to our equine friends.   Equine CBD discs are usually one disc (cookie) a day and taste just like a normal horse treat.  Pellets are also easily administered with a small scoop a day.  If pellets are used be aware that horses tend to lift their head while eating or turn over their grain buckets so the CBD pellets can end up on the stall floor.

Topicals are used on the skin and can even penetrate through the hair for quick pain relief.  Topicals are typically in the form of gels, suave or liniments.

When purchasing CBD, please look at the label closely. We are finding that a lot of products that are labeled CBD have very little or no CBD in the product.  We also suggest that you go to the manufacturer’s website and look for the “Certificates of Analysis”.  This report will show you if there is CBD in the product and what the THC levels are.  When using an edible CBD, we suggest that you do purchase CBD that has less than .3% THC.  The reason is that your body or your horse’s body will never get used to it.  Think about a sleeping pill, it works great at the beginning but after a few months it slowly takes you longer to fall asleep and one day it just quits working.   CBD products that have .3% or less CBD are legal, and the compound is always different, so the body never gets used to it.  Never use CBD bought from a marijuana dispensary.  The THC is much higher than the legal .3%.
